Though brothers Custo and David
Dalmau have been cutting their reputation in the fashion
industry since the early 80s, they really hit their stride in 1996
when they reinvented the wheel—or in their case, the tee shirt.
The item that was a true essential during the GAP decade in the
Dalmau Brother’s hands became a fashions statement anew, thanks
to 60’s-inspired patterns, body skimming cuts for men and
women and unexpected placements of luxurious fabric insets.
What’s most interesting is that though the brothers hail
from Barcelona, Spain, the Dalmaus have cited our own back yard
as the inspiration for the tees, which are still enlivening the
wardrobes of people like Nicole Ritchie,
Christina Aguilera, Antonio
Banderas, Penelope
Cruz, Natalie Portman, Samuel
L. Jackson,
and Julia Roberts. However,
like any fashion savvy man or woman, Custo and David know they just
cannot live on tee shirts alone.
For the past several seasons the Dalmau brothers have shown the
world their name and collection is coming of age without losing
sight of the audience that landed them in L.A.’s best boutiques
and specialty department stores. They’ve created pants, coats,
short jackets, purses, girly skirts and dresses, and smart men’s
items that introduce more sophisticated silhouettes that still can
carry the brothers’s sexy graphic trademarks. Anybody lucky
enough to attend L.A. Fall Fashion Week a few weeks ago will be
able to tell you how the star studded presentation (featuring Alec
Wek and other top-name New York models) amped up the Custo
cache to evolve beyond high-end casual toppers into the prêt-a-porter
leagues.
Cuesto’s collections can be found at (stores). You can also
get to Barcelona the easy way by visiting here.
This week, Custo is offering 2 lucky Book L.A.
readers some exquisitely detailed pieces for (1)
men and (1) women that will add some
real spice to their wardrobe mix.
