Alex and Ani Jewelry

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bangles

Before the Golden Globes pre-awards hub-hub, the marketing team from Alex & Ani Jewelry put together their own VIP suite together at West Hollywood’s London Hotel for press that consisted of a Bangle Bar, sort of a traveling bulk candy store for the fashionably inclined. Though the ladies also showed off designer’s Carolyn Rafaelian latest pieces, including a collection that would make the ladies of Mad Men swoon, her trademark bangle collection had fashion press buzzing.

Though the still-trendy Alex & Ani collection can be found at the hippest accessory boutiques and salons, what makes Rafaelian’s approach to jewelry special is that she allows the individual to become her own jewelry designer, and work within any budget, from modest to endless. Thanks to her innovative technology, replacing traditional clasps with a sliding mechanism (on all of her pieces in addition to her bangles), anybody can have a customized statement piece that can also be adjusted to her outfit or mood. The collection is available in precious metals on the higher end, or the signature Russian Gold and Russian Silver finishes and adorned with sacred symbols and stones.

While Alex & Ani has been on the fashion pages and on celebrities and models for a few years, what makes the collection more timely than ever is the fact that all of Rafaelian’s pieces are made in the U.S. and fashioned from recycled materials. The designer believes that by creating designs that support the environment and encourage social consciousness, consumers can use their purchases to make a difference in protecting our planet and our future. She also takes pride in the fact that many of the charms that adorn her pieces are, “powerful, meaningful, and spiritual pieces, which uplift and inspire all who wear them.”

“My mission is to design products that adorn the body, enlighten the mind, and empower the spirit. Alex and Ani's collections reflect a design aesthetic that celebrates each wearer's unique essence,” says Rafaelian. “My life's work is to inspire my customers to relish what is unique and authentic about themselves. Alex and Ani's artistry lies in drawing out the beauty that resides within.”

This week, a lucky reader will win a set of Alex & Ani’s signature bangle collections. While fans can experience the virtual bangle bar and the designer’s story at www.alexandani.com, they can belly up to the bar in person at Bettina Duncan, Elisa B., Kitson L.A., Diavolina. Sets range from $32 to $628 with individual charm bangles starting at $21 and going up to $198.

Winners will be randomly selected and notified January 25, 2010. US only. Rules
