Bread Denim

Artisan “Bread”

One thing that we noticed during the 2007 Golden Globes suites was that designer denim was conspicuously absent from almost all of them. While veteran brand Red Engine drew folks to their booth at the Showtime event with quiet, simple denim styles, the rising (pun intended) denim label Bread threw the practice of jean launches a curve with their introduction at the On3/Access Hollywood celebrity gifting bonanza, wowing the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Greg Grumberg, Emily Deschanel, Dominique Swain, Giada de Laurentis, Kevin Dillon, Patricia Arquette, Blair Underwood, Mary J. Blige and Katherine McPhee with some fresh new ways to achieve that clean denim look.

While the men had a super skinny style, two slim fits and a forgiving trouser cut to pick from, the skinny cuts for women—including the “Predator” with a customizing zipper built right into the jean—were real winners. Not only are the cuts forgiving for a variety of women’s shapes and sizes, but also perfectly engineers to be worn inside tall boots without uncomfortable bulkiness.

Before producing the line, creator/designer Jason Ferro was literally all over the map, creating styles for Abercrombie and Fitch, Levi’s, Guess, L.A. Denim Atelier and Hollister before getting truly innovative in cut and fabric uses for his own line. Furthermore, it is also one of the most eco-conscious brands on the market, made from organic Turkish, Italian and American fabrics treated without potassium. The final products are created in L.A. as Ferro intended to create jobs in the community. “Our line is about taking basics in a more sophisticated direction,” Ferro says. “We’re giving our blue-black denims a bit of a waxy look and feel, and later on for spring you’ll see muted red, turquoise, emerald and gray hues with the same great fits and feels. I want to make a statement with Bread, and yet those who get a par will find the statement won’t compromise their own special look.”

Bread Jeans retail from $178-300 for jeans and $89 and up for tops, are available at such stores as Hollywood Trading Company, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and via the web site www.breaddenim.com.

This week TWO VERY LUCKY WINNERS will win a pair of Bread denims.

Winners will be randomly selected and notified January 22, 2007. US only. Rules
