An International Way to Get Your Kicks

If you see the world the way Michael Krief does, you would find yourself smack-dab in the middle of a vibrant global village getting culture, color, excitement and dimension from a population coming from all walks of life. In his world, people separately and collectively embrace creative visions, views and lifestyles and are always looking for new and interesting ways to express themselves.

In other words, diversity. And thanks to the way footwear designer/creative director Krief and his team approach footwear, the brand name Diverse couldn’t be more fitting. The ambitious, San Diego-based Krief set out to build his own global village of artists and fashion designers from Paris, Milan, and London to bring footwear for women and men to life that rethinks the concept of ‘fashion-forward.’ Influenced by music, art, architecture, pop culture, street culture, club hopping and anything else making the scene, Diverse’s offerings, from ultra-trendy to office ready, reflect the tastes, needs and moods of an energetic and varied population.

Diverse aims to provide footwear for innovative fashion activists everywhere,” says emphatically Peyman Mohammadlou, Brand Director. “The creative license this allows is one thing that makes the brand so unique. The room to create and expand on distinctive designs and materials such as rubberized soles, stretch leather uppers and our highly successful newspaper print pattern from a few seasons ago, brings a fun and enterprising quality to the creation of each collection. Diverse is taking a long term approach to establishing the brand through product placement, selective distribution, and unique design concepts. Going forward we will continue to develop unusual but desirable footwear designs for the coming seasons, especially as this is what our customer has grown to expect and love.”

Diverse’s collections, which range in price from $90 to $200, include boots, sandals, athletic-inspired sneakers, moccasins and sexy heels (for the girls). And speaking of which, diverse celebrities embracing the vision of Krief and his team include Connie Nielson, Jason Ritter, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and Paulina Rubio. Diverse can be found in Nordstrom stores nationwide as well as specialty boutiques including Fred Segal Feet, The Shoe Lab, Veronic, Oriyan’s Shoes, Sunset Boutique. International distribution has reached approximately 300 doors including the countries of Australia, France, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom among others. See the collection at www.zappos.com.
