Given that we live in a city that boasts The Sunset Strip (where many bands and trends have been launched) and has birthed such iconic jewelers as Ari Soffer, Royal Order and the formidable Chrome Hearts, we have seen many rock-themed jewelry companies make their statement over the years. However, to really impress us, the statement has to be bold—bold enough to not just do the routine skulls, crosses and flaming hearts, but appeal to the inner rocker in everybody. Seriously, can you picture a lawyer, doctor, teacher or museum curator wearing a skull (at least during work hours)?
Femme Metale apparently has. The LA-based company really impressed us because it not only has the skulls, crosses and other paraphernalia, but gets the fact that people from all walks of life like to rock out too. Case in point is the multi-strand number adorned with onyx beads, that will work as well with a suit or little black dress as well as with the tee, jeans and boot concert attire. They also have crafted exquisite-but-bold floral and Asian-design medallions that are perfect accents to simply flowing dresses and tunics that are so big this year, balancing the look.
Femme Metale’s front-woman is Leslie Homan, a former model, Hollywood makeup artist and wardrobe stylist. She launched the line in 2000 with the goal of bringing out the rocker in every woman, and even a few bold men as well (with her companion line Heavy Metalwerks, worn by Johnny Depp, The Members of Lit and Scott Weiland), with a wide range of looks that think outside the tattoo, even while adhering to their rebellious appeal.
As the celebrity following proves, you do not need to play guitar or even scream to be a Femme Metale, just ask such diverse devotees as Christina Aguilera, Kate Moss, Sheryl Crow, Kat Von D, Brittany Murphy, Avril Lavigne, Angelina Jolie and even the Divas of theWWE. Rock out to Femme Metale’s rocking brand of fabulousness at www.femmemetale.net.
