Though you might not realize it, “jersey” is your wardrobe’s best friend. While use of the word “jersey” as an adjective connected to flow-y knit fabric was probably more common in your mother’s generation, this wonder fabric (which can be woven from cotton, silk, modal, bamboo or practically anything else) is responsible for the pack-and-go convenience of so many items in our closets, from tees to dresses.
Using a very modern combination of Modal and a hint of Spandex, (mi’ngks) (pronounced like “minx”) stretches jersey into the 21st century not only with its user friendliness, but also some girly tailoring, printed panels and interesting use of appliqués. However, the line is so well executed that while you will feel like you are wearing a tee shirt (or even less, depending on the garment), you will look completely dressed up and appropriate for work or cocktail hour depending on the garment.
Owner/Design team David Rathke and Laura Schroeder brought their academic backgrounds from Columbus College of Art & Design and professional experience together to create the concept for (mi’ngks) line in 2006. Prior to this, David generated a buzz through concept dresses (such as a bird cage dress with live birds and gowns fashioned from live butterflies) and their own line of handmade bags brought them to New York, they broadened their recognition in the fashion community through work at small fashion labels. Once they were ready to start their own business, (mi’ngks) –a line that was initially knit based, featuring modal jersey dresses, tops and skirts—came to life. As the line has evolved, it has grown into a small collection of decidedly feminine, wearable clothing for the contemporary woman. Fans who embody the experience include Lauren Conrad, Ashley Tisdale, Hayden Pannettiere and Kate Bosworth.
