Parasuco

Oh, Canada!

The Canadian influence on Hollywood goes way beyond Vancouver film shoots and Pere et Fils Sutherland. Some of those influences are actually pretty nice, actually. On the foodie side, there is Icewine with its sweet, nuanced flavor and supple body. Montreal-basedd Parasuco has been endeavoring to bring us the denim/sportswear version of that.

With the denim market being what it is, and dressing up being more en vogue at the moment, the 32-year old brand has its work cut out for it, especially on the U.S. market and more especially in L.A. where most of the major designer brands originate. However, like many celebrities who have appeared in its styles (Jessica Alba, Debra Messing, Celine Dion and Halle Berry), Parasuco has a strong resume. In 1975, Italian-born Salvatore Parasuco unched the company as Santana Jeans in Montreal at the age of nineteen, complete with a retail store. The company changed its name to Parasuco in 1988 in order to enter the United States market, as the trademark Santana was already registered in the US by another company. While the parent company spawned brand-offspring Mademoiselle, People for Peace and Cult, the main line (“Denim Legend”) has the biggest following worldwide.

Parasuco has answered the call by opening a store on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles and a Miami flagship in early 2008. Denim is still a wardrobe staple and a way of life. The brand’s appearance at the GBK Celebrity Gifting Suite for the American Music Awards proved it certainly has legs (figuratively and literally), with celebrities such as Jennifer Tilly, Audrina Patridge, Cheryl Burke, Holly Robinson-Peete and Khloe Kardashian snapping up some straight-legged models and some snazzy tees to go along with it.

This week, Parasuco is offering two lucky readersa man and a woman— an opportunity to strut on down to the newly opened Robertson store for a peek at the line and a pair to take home and enjoy. Other stores in L.A. proper carrying Parasuco include Foreign Exchange and Signature. Everybody can view a “cheeky” glimpse at the most recent incarnation at www.parasuco.com. www.parasuco.com.
